Book Covers & gender

The other day I was looking through The Book Cover archive for some design inspiration. And selected the covers above which all have the blue colours and great typography in common. And right after looking at blue book covers I came across this post at A Cup of Jo – about gendered book covers. I love the examples because they show just how powerfull graphic design is in use – you can read the full story and see more examples here.

Beautiful Bitmap Type

Tomorrow is my last day of teaching Typography. The students have all designed zines about various typographic subjects – and I’m exited to see the final results and to have introduced them to the importance of good typograhpy. It also gives me a perfect occasion to share this collection of Beautiful Bitmaps. It’s curated by Uppercase magazine – who invited 26 typographers, designers and illustrators to make beautiful bitmaps by taking this vestigial part of digital type—the bitmap—and making it into something to be newly appreciated. You can also purchase prints of the works here at Society6.

Logo design Inspiration

I’m in the middle of my teaching job, teaching the students about logo & identity design. They are all in the process of creating a personal logo for their work and portfolios – and it’s inspiring to see their process and progress. I’ve used my Pinterest boards a lot in my teaching – to share examples and inspiration. So why not share it with you also, you can find my Logo Design Pinterest Board here. Enjoy!

Blogish! e-magazine is out

Today our secret project went online. It’s an E-magazine created by my group of Danish blogger friends – and designed by me. It´s been a lot of fun and we love to see how fast the word spreads online. You can find the e-mag right here – and our Facebook page here. I’ve always known that blogging is great, but I’d never imagined that it would lead to so many wonderful friendships, with persons I never would have met IRL. So please share it with your own online friends! It´s in Danish only though – but give it a try and enjoy the free downloads inside.

Shine On…

Just playing around with colours and effect in Photoshop for another Illustration Friday. Shiny was the word – and the first thing that popped up was the Pink Floyd song, Shine On your Crazy Diamond. So here we go – a shiny & crazy diamond.

Party invitations & food to match

Sometimes I come across photos that are just a perfect match. I spotted the photos above on Pinterest – and just had to pair them! Wouldn´t you love to go to a Birthday party & eat cupcakes with frosting & Bubblegum - or to go to a Summerparty – snacking on chilled melon balls served in hollow limes. (Photos of cakes and melons both source unknown, please let me know if you know!)

New Flavours

I stopped smoking – again -  and ever since I´ve been a little obsessed with food, coffee, cookies and liquorice ( and I´ve also been a little bit grumpy! ) Well my new found interest in food was a great occasion to finally get hold of The Flavour Thesaurus, which have been on my wishlist for a while – both because of the beautiful cover and it´s  guide to combining flavours. Can´t wait to discover new flavours – my old favorites so far are; avocado & mayo, toast & butter, strawberries & cream, pear & goatchese – what´s your favorite combo?

Mere tid – Book cover design

I designed this book cover for a very special and important book that hit the shelves last week here in DK. The book is packed with helpfull tips and lessons on TIME management – and the authour behind it is one clever women! I participated in her Pimp My Time workshop 2 years ago – and I really believe she has saved my work life!
